Winter shminter.  Dunkin Donuts, tell us the facts.  Even during the dead of winter the popularity of iced coffee continues to grow.  And those iced coffee drinkers don’t care if it is cold, they still prefer it to hot, even in the freezing regions that DD serves

Thought the iced coffee drinkers out there would enjoy this review of the Starbucks Via Iced Coffee packets as much as I did:

Some excerpts:

This is one of those products where the added convenience just does not make up for the taste. Inside one of these little packets is a secret recipe of instant and ‘microground’ coffee. But the first ingredient is not coffee – it is actually sugar, which begs the question – want a little coffee with your sugar? No aroma, no real coffee flavor, and for about a buck each – no sale!

What ever happened to black iced coffee?

There have been a spate of articles recently about the positive effects of Chocolate Milk after a work out.
WebMD health news reported that fat-free chocolate milk outperformed sports drinks in terms of replenishing glycogen after a work out.

It got this Iced Coffee Daddy thinking, iced moocha…..

Here’s a recipe:

Tall 16 oz glass

2 oz cold brewed concentrated coffee

2 oz water

4 oz fat-free chocolate milk

Combine stir fill glass  with ice.  Stir again.

Enjoy after you next bike ride or run and save yourself a bundle too.

That is the conclusion of the Wall Street Journal.  If you missed it, the ran an excellent article on the growing iced coffee market and the lack of quality ways to brew your own at home.  Great job, it ran in the August 11, 2010 edition.

Some notes:  1.2 Billion, that is Billion, cups of iced coffee were served outside of the home in the 12 months ending May 2010.  That is staggering!

Another tip:  Keep your ice cubes big, they don’t melt as fast.

Keep drinking.

In the July 11 great iced coffee taste off, the San Franicsco Chronicle gave thumbs up to a number of cold brewed coffees.  But  here is what they said about the new Keurig K Cup Over Ice pods.  They tried three kinds of pods.

“The results were so poor they are hardly worth mentioning.  All three had an oily film on top and tasted weak yet acidic.  Tke Keurig coffee looked like tea and tasted like water.”

Wonder what they would think about the new Starbucks Iced Via packs.

Keep it cold brewed!

In the opinion of this ICD (Iced Coffee Daddy) here is what makes an iced coffee great.

First and above all it must not be bitter.  We have an illicit relationship with bitterness when it comes to iced coffees, especially when you buy it in cafes or RTD’s.  Bitter does not mean it is strong.  Bitter is not a sought after flavor profile.  Bitter means the coffee was over roasted, over extracted, poorly prepared or poorly stored.  Bitter iced coffee is not good or strong. It is BITTER.  Bitter coffee means more sugar goes in and that is not a goal.

Second it must be strong.  Otherwise by the end of the cup you have water.

Third it must be smooth.  You should be able to drink it and want more.

Fourth it must have a clean finish.  You want the taste to linger for a moment not to move in with your mouth and then stay there.

Those are the iced coffee rules.

So now Green Mountain believe that K-Cups are suitable for making iced coffee.  Bascially it looks like they have loaded up a K-cup with the goal of double strength results.

We will ordering some to play with, look for results next week.

According to the press a teacher who asserted that his iced coffee was poisoned while teaching a class
turned out to have tainted the drink himself.
A really bad use of iced coffee, what could have been his motivations?
